Summer 6 Weeks: Morning Music Club for Adult/Toddler ~ Ages 6mo - 5yrs Celebrate together using song, rhythm and movement! We will sing familiar and original songs. And, we'll play with Jamtown world music instruments in a light-hearted musical way. This program strives to celebrate you and your child's inner musician. Integration of the songs into everyday life for fun, stress-reduction, and music education is encouraged. An important aspect of the approach involves parents modeling the activities – which mean full adult participation. Your child's participation will increase with familiarity and repetition. Summer 6 Weeks: Afternoon Drum Club for Adult/Child ~ Ages 6 - 14 yrs Making music is as easy as 1, 2, 3 with Jamtown John as your guide. We'll explore basic rhythms and techniques that inspire you to practice and improve your skills with hand drums and small percussion instruments from around the world. In addition, each family* is invited to contribute their own unique drum song from a story you choose to develop (your last family vacation, for example). I'll guide you through the song creation process using your words and rhythms. Then the group will work out the song together. The last class can be a gathering for extended family and friends and we will perform some of the songs in a low-key celebration. Enroll today!
Instructor
First, he facilitates school, business and community events featuring hands-on participation with rhythm instruments. He is a pioneer in the field of accessible music technology that delivers a ‘shared experience’ to like-minded populations regardless of age or skill. John develops links between the personal music experience, group dynamics, organizational issues and important life lessons such as multicultural awareness and diversity. Second, Since 1995 John has created fair trade relationships with low-income artisans and co-operatives around the world for the purpose of importing musical instruments. JAMTOWN was selected to join the Fair Trade Federation in 1999 and John served on the Board for three years. His work with elementary and middle school children spans 15 years, with a focus on one-time music events for classrooms and community gatherings. He has delivered artist in residence programs at Bertschi School in Seattle & Evergreen School in Shoreline. In 2009, he completed a Music Together® training program in order to better serve the special musical needs of toddlers and their parents. John has written and produced artisan videos, group rhythm activity guides, and a children’s album included in the award-winning JAMTOWN Junior Rhythm Pack*. In 2009, the Sun Moon Star Drum & DVD won a Preferred Choice Award from Creative Child Magazine.
